Commemorate the Liberty Bell by creating your own bells as a symbol of independence and freedom!.

Did you know the Liberty Bell was once hidden here in Allentown? This painting, Hiding the Liberty Bell in Allentown, Pennsylvania, depicts the day several soldiers once smuggled the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia and hid it at the Zion Reformed Church in Downtown Allentown.

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper cups
  • Paper
  • Glue or tape
  • String
  • Beads or small bells
  • Pencil
  • Decorations for bell (optional)

Steps to Make Bells:

  1. Use a pencil to poke a hole through the bottom of the paper cup.
  2. Slide beads or bells onto a piece of string and poke both ends of the string through the hole. Tie a knot on top of the cup to hang the beads inside your cup. This will make the noise when you shake your bell.
  3. Cut a long, thick strip of paper and glue both ends to the sides of your cup. This is the handle of your bell.
  4. Decorate your bell using paper, markers, paint, stickers and more. Wait for your bell to fully dry before ringing.
